European Union Considers Olympic Opening Ceremony Boycott

"The European Parliament says it wants the 27 EU members to consider
boycotting the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies if the Chinese
government does not resume talks with the Tibetan spiritual leader, the
Dalai Lama. From Paris, Lisa Bryant reports several European leaders are
already considering such a boycott."

I'm all for the US boycotting the Olympics, too, but then again we paid
the Dali Lama a lot of money before we became Communists.

million a year in the 1960's from the Central Intelligence Agency, but

annual subsidy of $180,000."

I'm all for the US boycotting the Olympics, too...

The US Olympic team represents the /people/ of the United States of
America, NOT the /government/.

A legitimate government has NO authority, domain, or control over this
type of boycott; boycotting the Olympics would be done at the level of
and by the free choice of the individual.

You might enjoy reading a book called "The Nuclear Jihadist". It's about
Pakistan's nuclear mastermind, A.Q. Kahn, and how we screwed up so many
chances to stop him over almost 3 decades. Actually, mistakes aren't the
only reason we missed the chance. Reagan actually stood in the way of
various efforts to stop Kahn, will full intent. Goal: Use Pakistan to
balance India's nuclear efforts, which were backed by the USSR.

Now look what it got us.

Had we known then what we know now, we would have let Patton use the German

Not all hindsight. Various intelligence agencies were fully aware of Kahn's
threat from the very beginning, and how it related directly to Islamic
militants. In all cases, the efforts of these agencies were intentionally
thwarted.

In other words, it was known at the time that what was going on was wrong
and dangerous.
